Celebrating the anniversary of the author of “Os Lusíadas,” the festival distinguished itself through its broad scope and diversity, amassing a total of 51 activities across 118 sessions, which drew 11,000 spectators, reported the Chamber of Alcobaça in the Leiria district in a summary of the initiative that took place between March 24 and April 6.
The inaugural edition of the festival featured a variety of artistic, cultural, and literary expressions aimed at audiences of all ages, including 15 theatre performances, 10 author sessions, 11 creative workshops, eight capacity-building conversations, two music concerts, and two exhibitions, as noted by the municipality.
The programming included participation from all school groups in the municipality and engaged not only the school audience but also the general community. It offered encounters with literature, theatre, music, dance, and other artistic expressions, contributing to the cultural enhancement of the region, stated a press release from the Chamber.
Hermínio Rodrigues, the president of the municipality, remarked in the release that the two weeks of robust artistic activity demonstrated the community’s keen interest in culture, and he confirmed that the festival will continue in future years.
As part of the festival, a photography contest focusing on the heritage of Alcobaça is also being held. The competition, open to amateurs and professionals alike, offers prizes ranging from 500 to 3,500 euros and will run until June 8.
