Over three days, the event aims to be “a celebration of the seventh art” and a meeting space “between perspectives, ideas, and emotions, where cinema reflects the world,” as stated by the organization in a press release.
Organized by the Association Faro 1540, the festival will showcase 37 short films from various countries with the goal of “introducing new languages, viewpoints, and sensitivities” concerning the contemporary world.
“Short films are brief yet intense reflections on the issues and challenges of today. FARCUME is a space for reflection on the current world and the world we want to build for future generations,” states the festival director, Paulo Oliveira Botelho, as quoted in the announcement.
According to Botelho, who is also the president of the Association Faro 1540, “cinema is one of the most powerful forms of artistic expression and a privileged means of promoting the culture and values of a modern and conscious society.”
Since its inception, FARCUME has highlighted independent cinema and new generations of filmmakers, “reinforcing Faro’s role as a city of culture and creativity,” he adds.
As noted by Paulo de Oliveira Botelho, this edition marks a new cycle of consolidation and growth for the event, with a diverse program open to all audiences.
The 15th edition of the festival will take place at the auditorium of the 3HB Hotel in the Algarve capital, with free admission.
