The Airbus company has announced that “the vast majority” of the affected aircraft have been modified since the issue was disclosed on Friday.

The manufacturer states it is working with airlines to modify the fewer than 100 remaining aircraft to ensure they can be returned to service.

Airbus revealed on Friday the recall of approximately 6,000 A320 planes for urgent flight control software replacement due to problems caused by solar radiation exposure.

The aviation manufacturer has requested all airline clients using this software to “immediately suspend their flights” following the assessment of a technical incident on October 30 involving a JetBlue flight from Cancún, Mexico, to Newark, New Jersey. The aircraft had to make an emergency landing in Tampa, Florida.

The incident analysis “revealed that intense solar radiation can corrupt essential data needed for flight control operations.”

The Airbus A320, which entered service in 1988, is the world’s best-selling aircraft. By the end of September, Airbus had delivered 12,257 A320 aircraft, including executive class versions.
