In a statement, Fidelidade expressed “its deepest sorrow and extends heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims,” emphasizing that “the absolute priority at this time is to support all those affected by this tragedy.”
To support the victims and their families, Fidelidade, as the insurer of Carris, has made available a direct telephone support line in Portuguese, English, and French, considering the high number of foreign citizens involved.
This line is available through the number 217948826, “24 hours a day, seven days a week,” with the insurer providing “specialized psychological support teams.”
“We reiterate our total readiness to collaborate with all competent entities and facilitate quickly and transparently the necessary indemnification and assistance processes,” highlighted Fidelidade.
The insurer stressed that its commitment is “to stand by the victims, their families, and the entire community, providing the support that this situation demands with maximum responsibility, humanity, and respect.”
The accident resulted in 16 fatalities, correcting the 17 reported this morning, according to Civil Protection.
The derailment also caused around twenty injuries, including Portuguese and foreigners of various nationalities.
The government has declared a national day of mourning this Thursday.
The Glória lift, managed by Carris, connects the Restauradores to the São Pedro de Alcântara Garden in Bairro Alto, spanning about 265 meters and is highly frequented by tourists.
