Fifteen parties are contesting nine mandates in the electoral district of Faro.

The Chega party, recently recognized as the most voted political force in the district during the 2024 elections, is set to participate in the upcoming vote with Pedro Pinto as its parliamentary leader.

The Socialist Party (PS), which has traditionally held the majority in mandates within the region since 2015, continues to position economist Jamila Madeira as its lead candidate in an effort to regain the two deputies it lost last year.

The AD-Coalition, comprised of the PSD and CDS-PP, forming the government, has designated Maria da Graça Carvalho, the current Minister of Environment and Energy, to head the list. This decision aims to build on the 22.39% vote share achieved in March 2024 by Miguel Pinto Luz, the present Minister of Infrastructure.

During the snap legislative elections in 2024, Chega topped the polls with 27.19% in the Faro district, followed by PS with 25.46% and the AD with 22.39%. Each party secured three elected representatives.

With an electorate of 383,980 registered voters, the Faro electoral district elects a total of nine deputies to the Assembly of the Republic. These seats are contested by 15 political forces, an increase of one compared to the 2024 elections.

The Left Bloc, which ranked fourth in votes in this district in 2024 and has been without representation since losing its sole deputy in 2022, continues to back economist José Gusmão as its lead candidate, hoping to improve upon its previous 5.75% vote share.

The Liberal Initiative, the fifth political force within the district, introduces Daniel Viegas this year, having previously been led by Pedro Bettencourt, who garnered 4.56% in the prior election.

The CDU (a coalition of PCP/PEV) maintains Catarina Marques, a teacher, as its primary candidate after receiving 7,518 votes (3.18%) in 2024. The PAN party retains Saúl Rosa as its candidate, aiming to surpass the 2.58% achieved in the last legislative elections.

Carla Sofia do Carmo steps in as the lead candidate for Livre, succeeding Rodrigo Teixeira, who secured 2.75% last year. The Democratic National Alternative (ADN) now fields João Simplício, replacing Anabela Morais, who obtained 2.09% of the vote in 2024.

RIR, which received 1,074 votes (0.45%) in the 2024 elections, has once again nominated Rui Curado as its lead candidate. Meanwhile, Nova Direita (ND) introduces Carlos Nadal as its first candidate to increase the vote count, following Fátima Antunes who secured 782 votes in the previous election.

The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP), which achieved 611 votes (0.26%) in 2024, now presents Manuel Merceano, replacing former candidate Leonardo Reis. Volt Portugal aims to enhance its previous result of 591 votes (0.25%), this time fronted by Bruno Santos instead of Yannick Schade.

The People’s Monarchist Party (PPM) will also contest in the Faro electoral district for the upcoming legislative elections, with Joana Rego as its candidate, as confirmed by lists approved by the Faro Judicial Court.

The district of Faro encompasses 16 municipalities: Albufeira, Alcoutim, Aljezur, Castro Marim, Faro, Lagoa, Lagos, Loulé, Monchique, Olhão, Portimão, São Brás de Alportel, Silves, Tavira, Vila do Bispo, and Vila Real de Santo António.
