The National Republican Guard (GNR) of Santo Tirso arrested 11 men, aged between 18 and 59, and one woman, aged 37, on charges of serious qualified bodily harm in the municipality of Valongo this Tuesday.
The incident dates back to September 3 and reportedly occurred near a supermarket in the locality, stemming from a dispute over a place in the line for payment. The confrontation resulted in four injuries.
In a statement, the GNR disclosed that the arrests followed an investigation into the incident and targeted a group suspected of involvement in violent assaults in the locality of Sobrado.
The operation concluded with the execution of 12 arrest warrants and eight house searches, during which three firearms, 12 bladed weapons, 64 rounds of ammunition, 11 mobile phones, and a counterfeit note were seized.
The GNR further stated that all the detainees have criminal records for similar offenses and will soon appear before the Porto Magistrates’ Court for the imposition of appropriate coercive measures.
