
The mention was awarded at the international competition, where the grand prize went to the film ‘Hurikán,’ directed by Czech filmmaker Jan Saska.
‘Cão Sozinho’ is based on “the true story of a dog abandoned in its own home during a time when my grandfather began experiencing widowhood, and I returned from London, a place where I felt lonelier than ever,” according to the synopsis.
Produced by the animation cooperative BAP Animation Studios in collaboration with France, ‘Cão Sozinho’ received an award in July at a film festival in Kosovo and obtained other special mentions at festivals in Croatia.
According to the Short Film Agency, ‘Cão Sozinho’ is the third film by Marta Reis Andrade (1991), who studied in Lisbon, Paris, and London, where she also worked. She is currently part of BAP Animation Studios as an animator and director.
The international journey of ‘Cão Sozinho’ will continue in October at festivals in Romania, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United States, Hungary, Greece, Armenia, and Sweden, according to the Short Film Agency.
In the program of ANIMASYROS, the largest Greek festival dedicated to animated film, other films with Portuguese production were present, including ‘Sequencial’ by Bruno Caetano and ‘Al Amal — A Journey of Hope,’ co-directed by Orhan Koshkar, Jalal Rasho, Thomas Kunstler, and Portuguese author Fausta Pereira.
