Filmmaker Werner Herzog receives career award at the Venice Festival

“A brilliant storyteller of unusual tales, Herzog is also the last heir of the great tradition of German Romanticism, a visionary humanist and an indefatigable explorer, perpetually roaming in search of (in his own words) ‘a decent place for humanity, a landscape for the soul,'” wrote the director of the Venice Film Festival, Alberto Barbera, in his tribute to Werner Herzog.

Actor, producer, director, and writer, known for films such as “Fitzcarraldo” (1982), “Aguirre, the Wrath of God” (1972), “Nosferatu the Vampyre” (1979), and “Grizzly Man” (2005), Werner Herzog will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 82nd edition of the Venice Film Festival, scheduled to take place from August 27 to September 6.

In the same statement, Herzog expressed his gratitude for the award and noted that, at the age of 82, he is not yet retired. He recently completed the documentary “Ghost Elephants” in Africa, is currently in Ireland filming the fiction “Bucking Fastard,” is developing an animated film project based on his book “The Twilight of the World,” and is lending his voice to an animated film by Bong Joon Ho.

In addition to “The Twilight of the World,” Werner Herzog’s published works in Portugal include “Conquest of the Useless,” “Walking on Ice,” and “Each for His Own and God Against All.”
