Over the next few weeks, the historic Cinema Batalha in Porto will be showcasing films for the whole family.
A special program to celebrate the arrival of summer presents Tomm Moore’s “Song of the Sea” (2014) on July 8: an animation, which was nominated for the Oscar for Best Film, in which you follow Ben and his younger sister Searsha. Searsha is a child seal, the last of her species, and together they embark on a fantastic journey through a world of legends and magic.
The film is inspired by the mythological creatures of Irish folklore, who live as seals in the sea, but become human on land.
Between July 12 and 14, the “Mini Oasis” program offers three cinema sessions, each day at 3:15pm, with themes that are always very appropriate, such as the beach, the sun and the heat. The program comes to a festive close with “Disco”, to the sound of a Dj Set by MVRIA.
On July 22, the French cinema classic “Les Vacances du Monsieur Hulot” (1953), Jacques Tati’s first film featuring the character of Monsieur Hulot, interpreted by the filmmaker as a silent clown ready to be kind to everyone he meets, will be screened.
Summer workshops
But that’s not all: registration is now open for the “Documentaries and Archives” workshop, which runs from July 11 to 14.
Guided by Vanessa Fernandes and Ivo Reis (Espectro Visível), the workshop, aimed at participants aged 9 to 12, proposes to discover archives and cinema through press cuttings.
