Final exams for the 9th grade start today and for the first time in digital format.

The 9th-grade students are sitting for the first of two final exams of basic education today, which will be conducted in a digital format for the first time. Schools have expressed their readiness for this challenge.

The Mathematics exam will take place in two sessions, the first starting at 9:30 AM and the second at 12:00 PM.

This digital format follows the previous year’s decision by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation to retain paper format, as the previous ministerial team led by João Costa was deemed not to have ensured the necessary conditions.

A week ago, the president of the National Association of Directors of School Clusters and Public Schools (ANDAEP) expressed confidence that schools are equipped to facilitate these exams smoothly.

“We do not anticipate any mishaps. The system is in place. We are in a position to proceed safely to conduct the 9th-grade exams digitally,” said Filinto Lima in statements to the Lusa news agency.

Conversely, the Public School Mission movement warned of a lack of equity, predicting potential disturbances during what should be a calm period.

The representative for school directors played down the teachers’ movement concerns, emphasizing that schools have been preparing for this moment since the start of the academic year.

In addition to the final exams of basic education, the Monitoring of Learning tests (ModA) held from May 19 to June 6 for 4th and 6th graders were also conducted digitally, with some occasional constraints, which, according to Filinto Lima, aided schools in their preparation.

Following the Mathematics exam, students will be assessed in Portuguese on Thursday.
