The Ministry of Finance has announced that a new secure authentication feature requiring dual-factor verification will be implemented. This measure aims to enhance the protection of taxpayers’ access to their reserved areas on the Finance Portal and prevent unauthorized access.
This functionality is currently available to taxpayers without business activity and will be gradually extended to individual taxpayers with business activities and legal entities, the ministry stated.
To adopt the dual-factor authentication, taxpayers must have their phone contact registered and confirmed with the Tax Authority (AT).
Upon enrollment, whenever a taxpayer logs into the Finance Portal using their tax identification number (NIF) and access password, the AT will send a unique verification code via SMS, which must be entered to access the reserved area, according to the ministry.
Currently, access to the personal area can be achieved by entering the NIF and access code, or by using the Citizen Card or the Digital Mobile Key.
In the latter scenario, in addition to the existing code already associated with this feature, a code sent via SMS to the registered mobile phone is also required, which involves dual-factor authentication.
