Financial support competitions for cinema and audiovisual with 30.6 million

Nhe official page, the Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual (ICA) outlines the funds available for various programs in the cinema and audiovisual fields, including writing, production, distribution, exhibition, festival organization, international promotion, and co-production protocols.

While the global amount in 2024 was 29.6 million euros, this year’s total is 30.6 million euros. The slight increase can be attributed to the opening of the support competition for the production of animated feature films, which occurs biennially.

In the distribution of funds among the financing subprograms, the new talents and debut fiction feature films subprogram maintains the amount of 3.9 million euros. The general cinema program totals 16.2 million euros, about 1.3 million euros more than in 2024.

The support program for audiovisual and multimedia also retains the same 7.6 million euros.

The internationalization support program has 1.1 million euros this year, which is 620,000 euros less than in 2024, as one of the subprograms for international promotion and dissemination for sector associations is biennial.

The competition calendar is announced by the ICA on the same day the government publishes in the Official Gazette the ordinance authorizing the institute to allocate the 30.6 million euros for contracts to be signed within the scope of support from 2025 to 2030.

According to producers contacted by Lusa agency, the ICA presented the financial distribution plan for these supports to sector associations in February at a meeting of the Specialized Section of Cinema and Audiovisual, part of the National Culture Council.

Since then, everything was ready for the competition openings, but in response to several requests for clarification by Lusa, the ICA stated that the programs would only begin once “the technical processing process” was completed.

The 2024 competitions opened in February, and those for 2023 opened at the end of April, with several sector associations expressing disappointment at the time over delays due to mandatory budgetary procedures.
