After cold days, it appears that the rain is here to stay. Tomorrow, Friday, “periods of rain, persistent and sometimes intense” are expected, alongside a “slight rise in temperature.”
Information from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) indicates that the sky will be “very cloudy or overcast, temporarily decreasing cloudiness in Baixo Alentejo and the Algarve during the afternoon.”
Rain will also persist, “especially in the northern and central coast, where it will be persistent and occasionally intense.” However, it is “unlikely” to rain in the Algarve.
Regarding the wind, it is expected to be “light to moderate from the west/southwest,” and might be “moderate to strong in the highlands.”
In the Greater Lisbon area, the scenario is similar, with a “slight rise in temperature.” The same is true for Greater Porto, where there will be a “slight rise in maximum temperature.”
On Friday, the districts of Setúbal and Faro will record the highest maximum temperatures in mainland Portugal (20ºC). Meanwhile, the district of Guarda will have the lowest maximum temperature, at 10ºC.
Seven districts under ‘yellow’ alert until the end of the afternoon
It is important to note that the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra, and Braga are under a yellow alert this Thursday and until the end of Friday afternoon due to strong maritime agitation, according to the IPMA.
According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), these seven districts are under a yellow alert due to the forecast of northwest waves ranging from 4 to 5 meters.
The yellow alert, the least severe on a three-level scale, is issued when there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on weather conditions.

The districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra, and Braga are under a yellow alert today and until the end of Friday afternoon due to strong maritime agitation, according to the IPMA.

Rain? Remember the precautions you should take
The National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) advises citizens to take certain precautions due to the rain:
- Ensure the clearing of rainwater drainage systems and the removal of debris or objects that may be dragged or hinder drainage;
- Adopt defensive driving, reduce speed, and pay special attention to potential water accumulation on roads;
- Do not cross flooded areas to prevent the dragging of people or vehicles into road holes or open sewage drains;
- Remove animals, equipment, vehicles, and other assets from areas that are usually prone to flooding, placing them in safe locations;
- Stay informed of weather updates and follow instructions from Civil Protection and Security Forces;
