All municipalities in the districts of Bragança and Guarda, and most of Vila Real, Viseu, and Castelo Branco, are under maximum fire risk.
Additionally, dozens of municipalities in the districts of Braga, Porto, Santarém, and Portalegre face a similar maximum risk.
About 60 municipalities in the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Vila Real, Viseu, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Castelo Branco, and Faro are under very high risk.
The IPMA has placed around 50 municipalities in the districts of Faro, Beja, Évora, Portalegre, Santarém, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Porto, Braga, and Viana do Castelo at high risk.
Tens of municipalities in the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Santarém, Setúbal, Évora, Portalegre, Beja, and Faro are under moderate risk.
The fire risk determined by IPMA has five levels, ranging from low to maximum, the latter being issued when weather conditions, such as extreme heat and low humidity, significantly heighten the risk of ignition and spread of fires.
The government extended the state of alert in the country until Wednesday, August 13, due to the forest fire risk.
The state of alert is justified based on two main reasons: the continued high temperatures expected across the country in the coming days and a reduction in ignitions due to the imposed prohibitions.
The IPMA forecasts for today mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies, with considerable cloudiness along the west coast until late morning, which may persist in some areas north of Cabo Raso.
An increase in cloudiness is also expected in the interior of the North and Central regions during the afternoon.
Minimum temperatures will range between 13°C in Setúbal and 20°C in Portalegre, Castelo Branco, and Guarda, while the maximums will span from 23°C in Sines to 39°C in Bragança.
