In a briefing on the wildfires in mainland Portugal, the national commander of Civil Protection, Mário Silvestre, stated that the two aerial resources from the European Civil Protection Mechanism, which were initially expected to arrive on Sunday, “will only arrive on Monday”.
“Due to operational constraints, the information from the Mechanism is that they will only arrive on Monday,” said Mário Silvestre at the headquarters of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) in Carnaxide (Oeiras).
The arrival of the planes was announced on Friday by the Secretary of State for Civil Protection, who mentioned at the time that the planes were expected to begin operations on Monday.
