
The Judiciary Police, through the National Anti-Corruption Unit, detained three members of the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters from Beato and Penha de França this Wednesday. They are suspected of diverting funds belonging to the association and improperly using a service vehicle for personal gain.
A statement released to the media further details that “three residential search warrants and one non-residential search warrant were executed. The investigation revolves around the diversion of funds transferred and/or deposited into the bank accounts of a restricted group within the corporation. Additionally, there is an investigation into the improper use of a service vehicle for purposes other than intended, benefiting the commander of the Humanitarian Association and members of their family unit.”
According to the statement, those involved include the commander of the Penha de França Firefighters in Lisbon, the regiment’s treasurer, and a firefighter with financial responsibilities. They are indicted on charges of embezzlement, abuse of power, and misuse of funds.
