Bruno Sarmento, the deputy regional commander of Alto Tâmega and Barroso, stated that the three active fronts of the Ribeira de Pena fire have been “under control” since approximately 10:00 a.m. today, indicating the flames have been subdued.
Although the fire is under control, Bruno Sarmento cautions there are still areas with difficult access that “require the attention of firefighters.”
As of 10:40 a.m. today, 233 firefighters, supported by 71 vehicles and three aerial resources, were combating the flames in Ribeira de Pena, according to the deputy regional commander.
The vegetation fire in Alvite, located in the municipality of Moimenta da Beira in Viseu district, remains active. According to data from the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection, 376 personnel are engaged in firefighting efforts, using 105 vehicles and nine aerial resources.
The readiness level is being increased to the maximum, starting from midnight Sunday and extending until 11:59 p.m. on the 12th. This measure aims to enhance the pre-positioning of resources in response to the forecasted “significant complexity” of weather conditions during this period, explained the national commander of the ANEPC.
