A fire broke out in the Senhora da Assunção area, in the parish of Messejana, with alarms signaling the incident at 6:10 PM, as indicated by a source from the Sub-Regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection of Baixo Alentejo.
The blaze consumed an area of eucalyptus forest, olive groves, and pasture, with no reports of injuries or affected residences, the source added.
A representative from the GNR stated that Highway 2 (A2) was temporarily closed at the Castro Verde and Aljustrel junctions in the Beja district because of smoke from the fire.
According to the sub-regional command, the firefighting efforts involved 144 operatives, supported by 44 vehicles and six aircraft.
