
The fire that has been burning in Penafiel since Tuesday has heightened concerns in the evening as the flames approached the parish of Canelas, putting homes at risk, according to a source from the municipality.
With resources already deployed to the area to contain the fire’s progress, the GNR advised residents to gather in a yard in the parish for safety reasons, the source added.
By 8:20 PM, 260 personnel, supported by 71 vehicles and three aerial units, were combating the blaze, which on the first day spread to the neighboring municipality of Gondomar.
The alert for this fire, which started in the parish of Capela in Penafiel, was issued at 9:26 AM on Tuesday.
