
The fire that broke out on Sunday in a forest area in the municipality of Castelo Branco “remains active,” according to a source from the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC).
As reported by the same source, at 06:00 today, there were 138 personnel and 47 vehicles on the ground, and a “reassessment” will be conducted this morning, likely involving the deployment of aerial resources to combat this fire, reported to authorities at 17:00 on Sunday in the villages of Almaceda and Padrão, in the municipality and district of Castelo Branco.
This fire, which was tackled on Sunday with the support of nine aerial resources, was declared under control by the end of yesterday night but reactivated during the early morning.
Another fire in Alvorão, Torres Novas, which was being fought by 109 personnel, assisted by 29 vehicles and three aerial resources at 19:00 on Sunday, was subdued by the end of the day and entered the control phase at 22:15, according to a source from the Médio Tejo Subregional Command of ANEPC.
Due to the heatwave affecting the country, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) placed seven mainland districts on red alert, from today through Tuesday: Lisbon, Setúbal, Santarém, Évora, Beja, Castelo Branco, and Portalegre.
The remaining districts will have orange (the second most severe) and yellow alerts, varying between today and Tuesday.
