
“At present, we have two active fronts with extensive coverage. However, as temperatures drop and night falls, we anticipate that operations will progress favorably,” stated the deputy commander of the Douro Sub-regional Command to the Lusa agency.
José Requeijo also mentioned that by early evening there was “no locality at risk,” despite the fire having threatened certain villages during the afternoon without causing damage, thanks to the firefighters’ efforts.
A source from the Douro Sub-regional Command informed Lusa agency that “the fire, which began in Castro Daire, reached the municipality of Lamego, in the Mazes area,” in the parish of Lazarim, Viseu district.
The alarm for the fire was raised at 11:05 a.m. in the locality of Vale Abrigoso, parish of Mezio and Moura Morta, municipality of Castro Daire, Viseu district.
As of 10:25 p.m., 519 personnel, supported by 163 vehicles, were combating the fire, according to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority’s website.
