Fire in Lisbon building caused 18 injuries due to smoke inhalation

The alert for a fire on the third floor of a building in Campo de Ourique was given at 01h53. Eighteen residents of the building were taken to hospitals in Lisbon due to smoke inhalation.

Eighteen people were transported to various Lisbon hospitals in the early hours of the morning due to smoke inhalation caused by a fire that broke out on the third floor of a building in Campo de Ourique.

According to a source from the Lisbon Fire Brigade, the fire, which was alerted at 1.53 a.m., broke out in a third-floor room and probably originated in a washing machine.

“Eighteen residents of the building were taken to the São José, Santa Maria, São Francisco Xavier and Amadora-Sintra hospitals for smoke inhalation,” said the source.

The fire was extinguished at 2.17am and 24 operatives were on the scene with the support of eight vehicles.
