At around 8:00 AM, the commander stated that the fire caused one fatality and 12 injuries, with seven individuals treated at the scene and five transported to Amadora-Sintra Hospital. Two of the injured are officers from the Public Security Police (PSP).

Following the fire, which was confined to the eighth floor, 23 people were evacuated but have since returned to their homes, according to the commander.

Earlier, a source from the Greater Lisbon Sub-Regional Command indicated that the fire in Mira-Sintra, in the Sintra municipality, which was reported at 3:57 AM, resulted in one death and 25 injuries due to smoke inhalation.

The scene saw the deployment of 32 personnel from the Cacém, Queluz, and Algueirão fire departments, the National Institute of Medical Emergencies, and PSP, supported by 13 vehicles.

The deceased is a 76-year-old man. The family is currently on-site.

The commander of the Agualva-Cacém Fire Department, João Raminhos, informed journalists that upon arrival, they were already notified of “victims confined in some of the residences.”

The firefighters conducted a “direct combat of the fire, which was developing with great intensity on the eighth floor, where they had the indication of a person confined inside the residence, resulting in a fatal victim.”

According to the official, the fire forced the evacuation of 23 individuals from the building. Seven were “assisted on-site” and five had to be transported to Amadora-Sintra Hospital for “smoke inhalation” and “exhaustion.”

Of the five people transported to the hospital, three are civilians, and two are members of the Public Security Police (PSP), who “aided in the initial combat” of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. It is reported that the residence where the fire originated is “completely destroyed, particularly the room where the fire occurred.”

The commander deferred further information about the fire’s causes to the authorities, specifically to the Judicial Police (PJ), who are expected to arrive shortly. The incident also caused some damage to the doors of other residences.
