
The commander stated that the fire in the Alvão mountain range poses no threat to houses or villages and that “by the end of the morning [today], it may be under control.”
Shortly after midnight, the fire still had an active front, and Bruno Sarmento noted that weather conditions were favorable, with forecasts indicating an increase in relative humidity and a decrease in wind, factors that could aid in controlling the fire and declaring it contained within a few hours.
According to the website of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection, by 01:00 AM, 262 personnel were on-site, supported by 82 vehicles.
The official mentioned that the fire front, which broke out at 07:20 AM on Friday, is yielding to the resources and is burning in bushland areas with difficult access.
Around 01:00 AM, the fire in Moimenta da Beira, in the district of Viseu, had 300 personnel and 89 resources on-site, according to the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection.
Meanwhile, the fire in Figueira Castelo Rodrigo, also in the district of Viseu, at the same time, involved 170 personnel and 52 resources, as per the same source.
At 01:40 AM, there were 35 active fires in mainland Portugal, which mobilized 1,180 personnel and 363 land resources.
The government renewed the state of alert on Thursday until Wednesday, August 13th, due to the risk of forest fires.
