“The perimeter is largely consolidated and free from active flames, although the fire is not yet fully under control. A vast percentage is in the aftermath stage. There are hot spots, but no active fire,” stated José Requeijo, the deputy sub-regional commander of Douro.
In a briefing to journalists in Sabrosa around 1:00 PM, the deputy commander indicated that resources are distributed for consolidation tasks using trail machines.
“I believe we are on track to declare the fire under control in the next few hours,” he mentioned.
When asked whether there are any risks to populations and houses, following the evacuation of people from their homes, including a nursing home on Saturday night, José Requeijo stated that “since yesterday [Saturday] around midnight that problem ceased to exist.”
“There was no harm to people or property,” he summarized.

Current operations focus on aftermath and consolidation efforts, but Requeijo warned of high daytime temperatures and some wind, which could lead to the fire reemerging at any moment.
“We have resources strategically placed to quickly respond to any flare-ups,” he said.
According to the Municipality of Sabrosa, the fire is being tackled by 294 personnel, supported by 102 vehicles at the site.
