Fire in Sabrosa was resolved at 09:40.

The fire that erupted Wednesday in Feitais and later moved to Souto Maior reached a resolution phase by 09:40, according to civil protection authorities. Officials continue consolidating and mopping up efforts on site.

During an 08:00 briefing, Douro sub-regional commander, Miguel Fonseca, reported that the fire had only one active front, complicated by difficult access, with 90% of the perimeter under control.

This morning, a heavy helicopter is deployed in the area.

The mayor of Sabrosa, Helena Lapa, estimated that around 600 hectares of pine forest, brush, and vineyards have burned in the incident.

Speaking to the Lusa agency, Lapa stated that damage assessment will continue in the area affected since 13:30 on Wednesday in the Vila Real district. She initially calculates that 600 hectares have been affected.

“The night went well; temperatures dropped significantly and humidity increased, allowing nearly all perimeters to be contained except for one. With aerial resources, I believe the situation will be resolved,” Lapa said.

Lapa also warned of potential reignitions that could occur throughout the day.

The fire approached houses in the village of Souto Maior, but no residences were damaged.

“There has been investment in creating fuel management strips, and one is located nearby, which likely helped prevent the fire from reaching homes,” Lapa emphasized.
