
The President of the Sintra Municipality, Marco Almeida, praised the efforts of authorities and firefighters on Friday morning, highlighting their response to the Mira Sintra fire, which resulted in the death of a 76-year-old man and left 12 injured, including two police officers.
“I want to commend the intervention by the Agualva-Cacém firefighters and the PSP for their swift and efficient response, which likely prevented further casualties,” he stated.
Mayor Almeida also extended gratitude to the local parish council and Dr. Ana Cardoso, who was on the scene early and has been assisting those affected. He assured that the municipality is fully committed to providing assistance, both in cleaning up and social support.
To the family of the deceased, a 76-year-old man residing on the eighth floor where the fire originated, the mayor offered his condolences.
All Injured Discharged from Hospital
Speaking to journalists at the scene, Marco Almeida revealed that all those injured and taken to the hospital have been discharged and are now returning to their homes and work.
The fire, which broke out in a Mira Sintra building on Monday morning, necessitated the rescue of 23 people. Seven individuals were treated on-site, and five, including two PSP officers, were hospitalized. An elderly man initially reported missing was later found deceased in the apartment where the fire started.
