Fire in the municipality of Cuba in resolution phase

The fire was brought under control at 1:42 AM, a source from the Baixo Alentejo Sub-regional Command disclosed to Lusa.

As of approximately 2:45 AM today, 125 personnel were on the ground, supported by 47 land units, according to the website of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC).

A representative from the Baixo Alentejo Sub-regional Command previously informed Lusa that the fire ignited in the Vila Alva area, with the alert being issued at 5:21 PM.

The flames consumed an area of bushes, pasture, holm oaks, and cork oaks, with no homes at risk.

The government decided on Tuesday to extend the alert status until 11:59 PM on Friday due to weather forecasts predicting rising temperatures and an increased risk of rural fires.

A statement from the Ministry of Internal Administration indicated that “all exceptional measures, previously implemented, will be maintained during this period.”

The four main fires burning in mainland Portugal around 2:45 AM were being tackled by over 1,300 firefighters.

According to the ANEPC portal, at that time, 463 operatives were involved in the Vila Real fire supported by 152 land units, in the Trancoso (Guarda) fire 476 firefighters and 161 vehicles were engaged, in Tabuaço (Viseu) 291 personnel and 93 vehicles were deployed, and in Sátão (Viseu), 92 operatives were assisted by 27 land units.

These are the largest fires included in the Civil Protection’s list of ongoing rural fires (not yet under control/resolved) categorized as “significant occurrences,” characterized by their duration or the number of resources involved.
