A fire monitoring operation is underway as vehicles remain on site to respond to potential reactivations. “Vehicles are already there, standing by for the fire. There are resources on-site, but they are no longer actively fighting the fire,” said a source from the Alto Alentejo Sub-regional Command.
The forest fire broke out at 6:13 PM on Friday, and by around 4:45 AM today, 119 personnel and 36 vehicles were on the scene.
The seven major fires across mainland Portugal were being battled by 3,378 personnel, supported by 1,118 vehicles around that time.
According to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), the fires with the largest concentration of resources at 4:45 AM were in Vila Boa, Sátão, in the Viseu region, involving 946 personnel, and Piódão, in Arganil, in the Coimbra district, with 909 personnel engaged.
