Despite the challenging conditions, Noel Afonso reported at 8:30 a.m. that there were still three small active fronts, with aerial resources set to bolster firefighting efforts.
The most concerning front is located at Serro de Penhas Juntas due to its “very difficult access.” The other two fronts are situated near Agrochão and Falgueiras.
The fire broke out on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Palas and, propelled by the wind and accessibility issues, expanded into three fronts, spreading through the villages of Nuzedo de Baixo, Ervedosa, Agrochão, Felgueiras, and now reaching Serro de Penhas Juntas.
By 8:00 a.m., more than 400 personnel were on the ground.
The national road 206, between Agrochão and Penhas Juntas, and the municipal road between Nuzedo de Baixo and Ervedosa, have been reopened, according to Civil Protection.
