According to Júlio Miguel, the two active fronts in Agrochão and Falgueiras have been resolved, with “mop-up and monitoring” activities underway by 10:30 am.
At Serro de Penhas Juntas, the fire is “slowly descending with low intensity,” and the situation is “improving favorably,” the deputy commander stated.
The wildfire is burning in a brush area with difficult access, far from the village of Penhas Juntas. Júlio Miguel explained that all aerial resources are concentrated there to prevent it from reaching the village.
Winds between “30 to 40 kilometers per hour” are expected today, which could pose a challenge to firefighting efforts, as was the case on Thursday.
More than 400 personnel are battling the fire, supported by nine aerial resources and six tracking machines.
The fire began Thursday morning and has already impacted the localities of Palas, Nuzedo de Baixo, Ervedosa (where it threatened several homes), Agrochão, and Felgueiras in that municipality of the Bragança district.
