
Information provided to the Lusa news agency, Nuno Bandeira, vice president of the Câmara de Góis, explained that the flames which broke out early Thursday afternoon near the village of Candal, in Lousã, spread to the neighboring municipality and are threatening the villages of Comareira, located 11 kilometers from the council’s headquarters, Aigra Nova, and Aigra Velha, where there are several tourist accommodations.
Meanwhile, the municipality has activated the Municipal Emergency and Civil Protection Plan, due to the fire originating in Lousã that entered the municipality and parish of Góis “and threatens the population,” according to a statement sent to Lusa.
By 16:50, according to the website of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection, the Serra da Lousã fire was being fought by 343 personnel, supported by 101 vehicles and three aerial resources.
