The Alto Minho Sub-Regional Command indicated that “the fire spread in an area of pine and eucalyptus forest.”
According to the Territorial Command of the GNR in Viana do Castelo, “the woman’s body was found charred by her husband,” apparently during a controlled burn of debris that “spiraled out of control.”
The source added that the Judicial Police (PJ) have been notified.
The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) reported that at 7:24 PM, 69 personnel, supported by 25 vehicles, were fighting the fire.
In the afternoon, nine aerial resources were engaged.

A woman around 70 years old died today in Geraz do Lima, Viana do Castelo, when the debris burn she was conducting with her husband got out of control, revealed the GNR.
