A firefighting vehicle was destroyed by fire today during efforts to extinguish a blaze that began on Saturday in Sirarelhos, Vila Real, according to the Civil Protection Authority. The incident occurred without injuries.
The team of five firefighters from Alcochete was engaged in the operation when they failed to remove the forest firefighting vehicle, which was overtaken by flames. The crew managed to escape to safety.
The National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) reports that approximately 456 personnel, 150 vehicles, and seven aerial units are currently deployed to handle this incident.
