
The alert was issued at 5:30 PM in the Cabril area of Montalegre, Vila Real district.
The Fire Chief of Salto, Hernâni Carvalho, mentioned that the group was hiking in the Peneda-Gerês National Park when nightfall caused them to become disoriented, prompting a request for assistance.
The official stated that the four foreigners were located using a drone operated by the firefighters at 6:40 PM, after which the team began a footpath rescue mission in the mountains.
For this operation, the firefighters deployed the drone team, a rescue team of five members undertaking the mountain trek, an all-terrain ambulance with two personnel, and a command unit member.
The GNR mobilized soldiers from the Mountain Group of Gerês from the Emergency and Relief Protection Unit.
