“We expect that time [when the flames are under control] to be before night falls, but obviously we do not have a precise time, as it depends on the wind conditions, which is a very important factor in controlling fires,” stated a professional from the Volunteer Firefighters of Melres.
At 4:00 PM, three active fronts remained, and the firefighting resources were reinforced.
By 4:25 PM, 185 personnel supported by 49 land resources and three aerial resources were on the ground, according to the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) webpage.
At 2:50 PM, a source from this fire department revealed that the communities of Montezelo and Altocentro, in Melres, municipality of Gondomar, are threatened, although no evacuation order has been given as there was no wind blowing in the area.
