Fires. Coimbra’s ULS with additional means to respond to the populations

The Coimbra Local Health Unit (ULS) has announced the activation of the District Emergency and Civil Protection Plan, necessitated by the complexity and impact of rural fires in the district.

For immediate medical response, Clinical Care Centers are open at the Aurélio Amaro Diniz Foundation in Oliveira do Hospital, the Compassion Hospital in Miranda do Corvo, and at Avelar Hospital in Ansião.

Additionally, the supplementary care service in Tábua, the Basic Emergency Service in Arganil (fully available), and the Hospital Emergency Services in Coimbra are operational and fully available, according to a note sent to Lusa.

The ULS also has additional health teams stationed at the Health Centers in Lousã and Góis.

The allocation of resources will be continually adjusted according to the evolving situation in close coordination with the Coimbra Intermunicipal Community (CIM) and other civil protection entities.

The ULS urges all citizens to adopt preventive and safety behaviors following guidance from competent authorities.

Portugal has been on alert for fire risk since August 2, with numerous fires in the north and center of the country, burning more than half of the approximately 75,000 hectares of land affected this year.

The alert status has been extended until Sunday, announced the Minister of Internal Administration, Maria Lúcia Amaral, following a visit to ANEPC.

“With 22 consecutive days of intense heat showing no signs of letting up, the Government will once again extend the alert status until Sunday,” the minister told reporters.

Maria Lúcia Amaral emphasized that all restrictions and prohibitions imposed by the heightened fire risk alert remain in effect.
