
As reported by Mário Silvestre, the national commander of Emergency and Civil Protection, between midnight and 5:00 PM, mainland Portugal saw “38 fires, 10 of which occurred during the night, involving 1,193 personnel, 290 ground vehicles, and 102 aerial missions”.
“Across the country, at this moment, 425 personnel, 110 vehicles, and 13 aerial resources are engaged in active incidents,” said the official at 7:00 PM during a status update at the headquarters of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) in Carnaxide (Oeiras).
The three areas of “greatest concern” at that time were the incidents in Vila Verde, Cabeceiras de Basto, and Sabrosa, involving 353 personnel, 93 vehicles, and 11 aerial resources.
