The President of the Republic will visit the headquarters of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection in Carnaxide early this afternoon to attend a briefing on the fires, a source from the Palácio de Belém confirmed.
The same source indicated that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is expected to meet with the Minister of Internal Administration, Maria Lúcia Amaral, and the Secretary of State for Civil Protection, Rui Rocha, at the institution’s headquarters in Oeiras.
This visit will require Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to interrupt his vacation in the Algarve to gather information on the progression of wildfires affecting mainly the central region of the country.
The National Authority for Civil Protection has also scheduled briefings at 12:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at its headquarters in Carnaxide, Oeiras.
