
The formal entry of the brand into the Portuguese market is realized with a catalog specifically developed for national readers, assembling works of fiction and non-fiction, both national and international, the publisher announced in a statement.
Established nearly nine decades ago with the aim of “making literature accessible to everyone,” Penguin has built a legacy characterized by “editorial diversity” and the “democratization of reading.”
The new catalog features authors such as A.C. Grayling, Anne Tyler, Carlo Rovelli, Dan Jones, Elizabeth Gilbert, Emma Holten, Filipa Fonseca Silva, Gabor Maté, Jason Stanley, Katherine Pangonis, Kiran Desai, Maria Francisca Gama, Mafalda Santos, and Pedro Vieira, with the promise of “many more, including new voices debuting under this label.”
Offering a range from fiction to non-fiction, classics to contemporary literature, mystery to fantasy, essays to real-life narratives, Penguin presents itself, in the publisher’s words, as “a catalog for all readers.”
Clara Capitão, editorial director of Penguin Random House Portugal, believes this launch signifies a strengthening of the group’s strategy in the country.
“By creating a Portuguese catalog with the stamp of this global reference brand, we take another step towards strengthening our commitment to quality and editorial diversity, criteria that have always shaped the editorial spirit of Penguin,” she stated.
The new imprint will join other labels within the group in Portugal, such as Alfaguara, Cavalo de Ferro, Companhia das Letras, Elsinore, and Penguin Clássicos.
Penguin Random House Portugal is part of the Penguin Random House Grupo Editorial, based in Barcelona, and is integrated into the international group Penguin Random House.
With over 300 imprints across six continents and a presence in more than 20 countries, the group annually publishes over 15,000 titles and sells more than 600 million books, featuring over 80 Nobel Prize-winning authors in its catalog.
