The Luna Fest festival kicks off today at Praça da Canção, in Coimbra, with five nights of rock music featuring names such as A Certain Ratio, Gang of Four, Black Lips, Martin Dupont and The Fleshtones.
The first edition of the festival dedicated to rock & roll kicks off today on the left bank of the Mondego river, with The DSM IV, Robert Gorl & Daf, The Undertones, The Speedways and John Cale & Band.
On Thursday, Oh! Gunquit, The Black Lips, Finale, Buzzcocks, La Elite and Hickoids take to the stage.
On Friday it’s the turn of La Femme, The Phobics, The Damned, Fleshtones and The Star Spangles, while 5th Punkada, Eel Men, Dissidenten, Martin Dupont, A Certain Ratio and The Rezillos perform on Saturday.
The last day of the festival, Sunday, features performances by Gang of Four, The Only Ones and Yummy Fur.
The American band Devo, who had been announced to perform on Sunday, cancelled their concert for that day – the organization is therefore offering the last night of the event.
The idea of creating Luna Fest came about at the initiative of musician Vitor Torpedo together with Tito Santana, head of Coimbra’s rock bar Pinga Amor.
The event combines music with a social aspect, supporting student groups in the city and offering general tickets to those who donate blood.
The organization established partnerships, namely with the Cerebral Palsy Association of Coimbra, under which it provided 550 general tickets, which were sold by the Association, with the proceeds going entirely towards the purchase of equipment for this institution based in Quinta da Conraria, in Coimbra.
