The red flag was raised at Praia dos Pescadores, in Ericeira, in the municipality of Mafra, and bathing is prohibited because the sea water is polluted, the National Maritime Authority said today.

Analyses of the quality of sea water, carried out by the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), revealed “microbiological values above the reference parameters, finding the water unsuitable for bathing”, says AMN in a statement.

For this reason, the local public health authorities have asked for the red flag to be raised on the beach and for notices to be placed at the access points to inform of the ban on bathing.

According to AMN, the ban will remain in place until the results of new water quality analyses indicate that microbiological values are within the reference parameters.
