Fishing vessel inspected in Peniche. “Infractions identified”

The Maritime Police conducted a joint inspection operation on a fishing vessel approximately four kilometers from the entrance to Peniche fishing port on Friday, May 9.

The National Maritime Authority (AMN) reported that, following monitoring by the Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Safety, and Maritime Services (DGRM), an irregular situation involving a vessel in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the Azores was detected. The vessel’s master was ordered to direct it to Peniche port, where Maritime Police from Peniche intercepted and inspected the vessel, escorting it to the port of Peniche.

During the joint operation, multiple violations were identified, including the master’s lack of qualification for their functions and missing licenses, navigability certificates, and other documentation.

Subsequent reports were filed, and the vessel’s master was notified by the Captain of Peniche Port that they may only navigate with a qualified crew and after resolving documentation issues.

AMN noted the operation involved seven members from the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Peniche, four from the Regional Command of the Central Maritime Police, five from the Tactical Group (GAT), one from the Port Captaincy and the Psychology Office of the Maritime Police, six inspectors from the DGRM, two from the Authority for Working Conditions (ACT), and four personnel from the Fisheries Control Unit (UCC-F).
