Five Benfica supporters arrested in Fafe for possession of prohibited weapons

The National Republican Guard (GNR) detained five men, aged between 19 and 30, on April 6 for possessing prohibited weapons in the municipality of Fafe.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the security force indicated that following a complaint about disturbances near a sports association, involving the detonation of explosive devices known as firecrackers, officers were dispatched to the scene.

During the operation, personal security searches were conducted, leading to the arrest of five supporters of a fan group, who were preparing to attend a sporting event.

A variety of materials was also seized, including five objects intended for use as weapons, such as pickaxe handles and snooker cues; a knife; 22 explosive/pyrotechnic items, including firecrackers and bombs; and three mouth guards.
