
Five individuals, including a Portuguese national, lost their lives in a road collision between a van and a passenger vehicle late Monday afternoon, September 1, in Luxembourg, on the N15, between Feulen and Heiderscheid.
The tragic accident, described as the deadliest in Luxembourg in the past 36 years, occurred around 6:10 p.m.
The two vehicles collided head-on and subsequently caught fire. Both were completely consumed by the flames.
Various emergency units rushed to the scene, but there was nothing that could be done for the victims. All occupants of the two vehicles suffered “instant death.”
Forensic police also attended the scene to thoroughly investigate the circumstances of the tragic accident. Although the exact cause of the collision is still formally unknown, sources linked to the investigation suggested that the passenger vehicle may have crossed into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with the van.
26-year-old Portuguese national among the victims
A local newspaper revealed that one of the victims is Portuguese. The individual was a 26-year-old from Freixedas, in the district of Guarda.
The Portuguese national, who resided in Larochette, was driving the van involved in the tragic collision.
