The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued a warning for several districts, anticipating “showers, sometimes heavy, with hail and thunderstorms” at least until 06:00.
From 09:00, the yellow warning will be reissued for 13 districts across mainland Portugal: Bragança, Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre, and Braga.
The IPMA expects “showers, locally heavy, possibly with hail and thunderstorms” until 15:00.
The yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, is activated whenever there’s a risk situation for certain activities dependent on weather conditions.
For today, the IPMA forecasts very cloudy skies across the mainland, with a decrease in cloud cover expected from late afternoon onwards.
The forecast also indicates weak to moderate winds (up to 30 km/h) from the southern quadrant, occasionally strong (up to 40 km/h) in the highlands of the Central and Southern regions, shifting to the western quadrant from the morning.
Minimum temperatures are expected to range from 8 degrees Celsius (in Guarda) to 15 (in Sagres), while maximum temperatures will range from 13 degrees (in Guarda) to 20 (in Braga, Santarém, Setúbal, Beja, and Faro).
