Five of the six electric boats on the Tagus are damaged.

The Mayor of Seixal, Paulo Silva, addressed the ongoing disruptions in the ferry service between Seixal and Lisbon following a meeting with the administration of Transtejo Soflusa. He announced that the issues, characterized by cancellations and schedule noncompliance, are expected to be resolved next week with the intervention of technicians from the shipyard responsible for the construction of the electric ferries operating on the Tagus.

“To ensure smooth service between Seixal and Lisbon, four ferries are required: three in operation and one on standby. Currently, only one electric ferry and two diesel ferries are operational on this route,” Silva stated.

The mayor noted the continuous disruptions have led to dissatisfaction among residents who have lost confidence in the ferry service.

“Even during peak hours, the occupation rate of the ferries is around 50 percent,” he remarked.

Silva emphasized his ongoing concern and intention to request a meeting with the newly appointed Government to demand a solution to this chronic issue that significantly impacts the Seixal population.

Transtejo Soflusa (TTSL) operates the ferry connection between Seixal, Montijo, Cacilhas, Barreiro, and Trafaria/Porto Brandão in the Setúbal district and Lisbon.

In 2024, TTSL transported a total of 1,040,043 passengers on the route between Seixal and Lisbon.
