Five Spaniards assisted after a boat breakdown at the Aveiro bar

Five Spanish nationals were assisted on Wednesday by the National Maritime Authority (AMN) after their boat lost propulsion due to an engine failure south of the entrance to the Aveiro bar.

In a statement sent to newsrooms, the AMN explained that the five Spaniards were aboard a recreational vessel, also flying the Spanish flag, and were aided by the crew of the Aveiro Lifeboat Station.

The alert was raised at 12:37 p.m. through the Maritime Traffic Service (VTS) of the Aveiro port, and “the crew of the Aveiro Lifeboat Station, as well as elements of the Local Command of the Aveiro Maritime Police,” were immediately mobilized.

Upon reaching the vessel, it was found that “the five people were physically well, without the need for medical assistance, and the boat was towed to the quay of the Ílhavo Coastal Fishing Port.”

The owner was notified and will only be able to navigate again after an inspection to ensure normal navigability conditions.

According to the note, the Local Command of the Aveiro Maritime Police took charge of the incident.
