
At 19:00, the Mayor of Castelo de Vide, António Pita, stated that the fire “reached near the urban perimeter” of the town’s center but “currently, no houses are at risk.”
“The fire came from Portalegre, passed over the São Paulo mountain and the National Road 521 (EN521), heading towards the central urban area of the village,” he reported.
The fire “did not enter Castelo de Vide,” but “remained here in the mountains, a very sensitive area of the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park and close to the urban space,” he emphasized.
The firefighters, assured the mayor, “have resources positioned” and the fire “did not enter the village, it was controlled,” António Pita also pointed out, explaining that there was a more complicated situation with flames near a fuel station, but it has been resolved.
As of 19:00, according to the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ENEPC)’s website, 267 personnel were engaged in fighting the fire, supported by 79 vehicles and four aerial units.
The alert for the fire was issued to authorities at 14:01, having erupted in a bush area in Tapada do Loureiro, in the parish of Ribeira de Nisa e Carreiras, in the Portalegre municipality,
During the afternoon, a source from the Sub-Regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection of Alto Alentejo explained there were “no people or houses at risk” and the fire had “only one front.”
