Floor collapses in Leiria due to “intense rain”. Van fell into hole

A van became trapped in a hole at a square in Leiria after a section of the pavement caved in. No injuries have been reported.

The Lisbon Volunteer Firefighters explained to Notícias ao Minuto that when responders arrived on the scene, “the driver was out of the vehicle.”

The same source mentioned “intense rain” as a possible, but unconfirmed cause, and on Facebook, the municipality echoed this theory. The Leiria Municipality’s page provides information on various incidents “as a result of the intense rainfall recorded this early morning and morning.”

One of the five incidents described is the collapse of the pavement.

“The most serious resulted in the collapse of the pavement, this morning, around 9:10 AM, near the entrance to the Praça Rodrigues Lobo in Leiria, with a vehicle falling into the hole, but without any victims,” according to the note.
